"We can’t focus on losing –we have to get into our winning mojo and there is nothing that can stop us" - Michael Wysocki
Michał Wysocki, or Misiek, as people know him was born in Poland and moved few years ago to USA. He is a man of many skills. From electrician, to home builder, and an amazing handball player his ability to juggle many things at once just comes naturally.
Your handball career before moving to New York City? (when did you start playing, who did you play for, best memories and achievements)
Michał Wysocki: It was in the 4th grade when I fell in love with handball. My first coach was Mr. Dobek and thanks to him I am where I am now, and I have to say it's a really great place :)
I started my club career in in my home town club called Trojka Ostroleka. I've spent two seasons and moved to Warsaw where I continued my career at the University of Warsaw where I played for for almost 10 years.
My biggest achievement is the 1st place in Universities Competiton in Poland (season 2012/13). I had a great time too!!!
Your handbal career with NYC HC?
Michał Wysocki: One day I received a phone call from coach Richie. He didn't want me to sign with any other clubs and invited me to join one of the NYC practices. I guess they liked my performance because I'm still playing there :).
I love the atmosphere in the club. We developed such great friendships and we’ve shared many journeys together. It's a great adventure. It’s almost 5 years that I play for NYC HC and I hope to be here as long as I can.
Personally, I have won 3 US National titles with NYC HC, but I know the club has a lot more.
First ever to qualify to the Super Globe from NorCa region. What do you think about it? What are your chances to qualify to the Super Globe?
Michał Wysocki: The idea of playing at Super Globe makes me really excited and I can't wait to be a part of this huge event. I think the chances are high. We can’t focus on losing, we have to get into our winning mojo and there is nothing that can stop us.
By qualifying to the Super Globe 2019 you would become a part of a group to represent a USA club for the first time in a large global event like this. How does this notion keep you motivated?
Michał Wysocki: It makes me want to give my 120% at the practice and do my best at the games. It is great feeling to be a part of NYC HC and especially that now we have a chance to represent the club on a global stage.
As they say Work hard. Play harder!
